I've been watching the movie Labyrinth quite a bit. So I'm sort of on a dark Fairy kick lately. This tiara was absolutely influenced by that. I dearly love how the crystal in the middle swing freely as you prance about the room.
Just a little gold colored tiara to brighten my day. I think I will call it the Mermaid Tiara because it reminds me of something a mermaid would make out of a Spanish ship wreckage with golden coins.
I'm super excited that I finally made it through summer to another Fall season wooo hooo!!!! And to celebrate I had to make something fitting for the occasions. Behold.... my flying bat hair comb. It's just so cute!
This piece was originally based on the La Llorona legend. There are many versions of the story, but the most basic one involves a woman bathed in a watery blue light sobbing at the loss of her children. And if you hear her crying or are a little child who looks like her lost children she could come after you, (the legend is much more complex than what I am explaining it here). In the area I grew up the legend was always whispered about in Spring and Summer. The closest I came to her was there was a small shack near one of my friends house. I think it was an equipment shed for a near by farm out in a field. One night while talking about the legend we just happened to be looking in the direction of the shack where we saw a mysterious blue light in the middle of the night. A couple of weeks later a story about that shack appeared in the paper with the La Llorona legend attached to it. But once I delved into making this piece the idea of her morphed into a time when she was happier, before her tragedy happened. Maybe around the time of her wedding, hence the veil, and lovely purple flowers, yet there is the foreshadowing blue hue creeping out from the corners and over her face like an ever present looming sadness. I have to say I had so much fun making this piece. It really consumed me for a very long time.
I am taking full advantage of this beautiful day by working on a few new tiara ideas. This one has a sort of dark fairy motif going on. My porch has been surrounded by huge firefly and butterflies this whole month so I'm guessing they are rubbing off on me.
Soooo ... I was looking at images of Byzantine art, and mermaids when I came up with the idea for this tiara. I know the two ideas don't seem to go together. And every time I say that to someone they question me a lot. Realize my image searches are CRAZY. And when I start a google search for art you never know where I will end up. I should probably just say steampunk mermaid to make it easier on everyone. But you have to admit Byzantine and mermaid together does make a pretty tiara.
Summer always makes me think of traveling 1920's carnivals, gypsy caravans, and running away with the circus. Giving me the most unbelievable urge to work with peacock feathers (don't worry it makes sense in my brain). So with images of bohemian tribal steampunk dancers I made this filigree hair clip.
I recently had a custom order for a pink tiara. If you follow my work you'll know that's a little out of my comfort zone. But I'm really happy with the color pink I came up with. It looks adorable! So I might just have to add it to my tiara line.
Well... I should have cleaned up my studio, but I made a pretty necklace instead. I will have to clean it up eventually. It's starting to become difficult to find things. But for now I am just to lazy.
I'm so excited! I was finally able to see pictures of the White Party that took place in Palm Springs, CA on 4/27/2015. The reason why I'm so excited is that the organizers of the event contacted me and wanted me to make a tiara for Kelly Osbourne. She was going to be crowned Queen of the party that year, and they wanted a crown that suited her style. Doesn't she look AMAZING!!! I know you can only see the tips of the clock hands through her hair, but I really don't care because her hair looked FANTASTIC so I wouldn't want her to change it for the world! (for more pictures of the event click this link).
